“What’s happening around you, is never as important as what is going on within”. – Carol Sligh.

Recent studies have shown,  music can be very instrumental in the healing of ones body, soul, mind and overall well being.

We see this indicated throughout history for centuries. From mother’s soothing newborns, convalescent homes working with seniors, to healing institutions playing music as they conduct business.

When my husband taught my daughter to read, he played music, and while many students study, work and live, music is their main staple.

Let’s not forget the biblical figure David, who played his music to calm King Saul.  I think that was his first entrepreneur gig.

Music can definitely revitalize the senses, touch your heart and heal the wounds during difficult times.

According to an article I recently read, written by the Cleveland Clinic ” Music therapy is an evidence-based treatment that helps with a variety of disorders including cardiac conditions, depression, autism, substance abuse and Alzheimer’s disease”.

What I didn’t know was that music can also help with memory, lower blood pressure, improve coping, reduce stress, improve self-esteem and more.

Music therapy… Who would of thought. Instinctively, I am sure quite a few of us have a “go to” song. At least I do.

So what exactly does my favorites playlist consist of “The Tye Tribett Essentials” and let me say, it is an essential for my life at any given time.

Why? What’s happening around you, is never as important as what is going on within.

Winston Churchill once said “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”

So to maintain my peace, develop stamina for the task at hand and breathe, I listen to  songs such as “Anyhow”,
“We gon’ be alright”, “Work it out”, “Craving”, and Lets not forget my favorite foot tapper- “African Medley”- no not originally from Africa, but the Motherland has a way of serenading us all, at least it serenades me every week for my live radio show in Jo-burg South Africa…( Shameless plug…haha)

Oh and what awakens My Giant within? “Already Won”. It reminds me of CHOICES, we all have to make them, or someone will make it for you.

So as you serenade your greatness within, remember we are either moving forward a “victim” or going ahead as a “Victor”. It”s a choice.

What playlist do you plug into?
It makes a difference and now we know it counts.

As you go about your day, week or month remember my  5 reasons why music can be a go to for you.

• Music can call up repressed (bottled up) emotions that may then be released.
• It lessens feelings of isolation.
• it Improves your mood.
• Decreases depression and
•  Reduces Anxiety

I almost forgot….What was I listening to while finalizing this blog? I’m glad you asked, ” Come out of hiding” by Tye Tribett. Yes, this is also on the essentials, so as I come out of hiding, would you join me? Destiny is waiting.

Until next time….
Keep overcoming and you will live.

Love,

Carol
